The Minister of State at the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister described the amendment of the Constitution contemplated in the wake of the Sunday quota referendum as an urgent necessity, as the decision-makers in Brussels, he said, have made clear on a number of occasions that „they have no intention whatsoever of revoking” the relocation plans.
Csaba Dömötör highlighted on the programme 180 minutes of Kossuth Rádió: based on the Sunday referendum, 98 per cent of the people take the view that the Brussels immigration policy needs to be changed. This is a clear message to the effect that the nation states cannot be avoided with a „stealthy” Brussels policy. He added: as far as the Government is concerned, it looks upon the result of the Sunday referendum as binding, and they therefore decided to submit a proposed amendment to the Constitution. The relevant preparations are already under way, he added.
The Minister of State highlighted: everyone has a vested interest in a strong Europe which is able to protect its communities, culture and values. At the same time, there is a vested interest in a strong European Union, but – as he said – it is only strong if it is able to revoke a flawed proposal which is contrary to the opinion of those living here.
Mr Dömötör said on the public service television news channel M1: Europe, too, has won with the Sunday referendum held in Hungary. At the same time, Mr Dömötör expressed regret on account of the fact that in the weeks before the referendum, the opposition parties used the referendum as an internal political fight for pure political gain. The Minister of State took the view that this was also confirmed by the debate in Parliament on Monday.
