“The goal of the government information campaign for the quota referendum it to draw attention to the consequences of Brussels’ mistaken immigration policies”, the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister’s Minister of State for Government Communications told Hungarian news agency MTI.

Bence Tuzson said the Government’s communications campaign for the referendum on the compulsory resettlement quota would be entering a new phase on Monday.

“New messages concerning the referendum have appeared on the Government’s referendum website (www.nepszavazas2016.kormany.hu) and earlier messages will also be replaced on billboards, the printed media and in online, television and radio advertising”, he said.

With reference to the compulsory resettlement quota, the Government confirms that it rejects attempts by Brussels to put pressure (on Member States) by threatening the implementation of fines. We call attention to the fact that compulsory resettlement increases the threat of terrorism and endangers Hungarian culture and traditions, in addition to which it is not a good solution to economic and demographic problems. According to the information provided, immigration is increasing year by year and accordingly we should be protecting our borders instead of introducing compulsory resettlement.

The Government announced in May that it would be launching an information campaign for the referendum on the compulsory resettlement quota.
