The authorities in Western Europe are often unable to expel migrants, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said on the public service television news channel M1 on Sunday evening.

There are cases when Western European countries even pay migrants to leave the country. If they are expelled, they often evade the authorities, disappear, fall ill or use the assistance of lawyers, the expert added.

If they are finally successfully deported – which usually takes place by air or by boat – the problem often is that there is no way of knowing which country the migrant should be taken back to. Many of them throw away their documents in order to make identification more difficult. If the authorities do manage to ascertain a migrant’s identity and country of origin, another possibility could be that the issuer country is not prepared to take them back.

Therefore, the expulsion of migrants from Western Europe is often infeasible.
