Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony has for weeks been trying to shift the responsibility in connection with the Pesti út elderly care home; it is, however, not a one-off case, the Spokesperson of the Government Communication Centre posted on his social media account on Saturday.

In his post, Örs Farkas stressed that while less than one per cent of the residents of elderly care homes operated by entities other than the metropolitan municipality are infected, every tenth resident of metropolitan institutions is a confirmed coronavirus patient.

He said it is also sad that every sixth victim who died in Hungary lived in homes operated by the metropolitan municipality.

In a message to Mr Karácsony, he wrote he can expose allegedly untrue claims, he can shift responsibility, he can complain in the media due to attacks on him all he wants; the facts speak for themselves.

In conjunction with his post, Mr Farkas also shared a diagram regarding the disease control data of elderly care homes. According to the diagram featuring categories of homes based on the total number of residents, infected workers in the capital account for 1.5 per cent in contrast to 0.1 per cent nationwide. Infected residents in the capital account for 10.2 per cent, compared with 0.6 per cent throughout the country. Infected residents in need of hospital treatment in the capital account for 4.7 per cent in contrast to 0.2 per cent nationally. At the same time, deceased residents in the capital account for 1.6 per cent, compared with 0.1 per cent nationwide.
