The government has released short films for the elderly in connection with the coronavirus, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister announced at a press conference held on Thursday in Budapest, after the meeting of the Operational Corps.

The government’s information campaign related to the coronavirus has some new additions: short information films intended for the elderly have been released, State Secretary Csaba Dömötör said.

In his view, these are necessary because the elderly are more at risk from viral infections. The short films will be shown on television channels, audio versions will be broadcast on the radio, while advertisements with similar contents will also be published in the printed press and on the Internet.

The information films and advertisements seek to draw attention to the fact that crowded places must be avoided, in particular, closed spaces and public transport. Contact with patients with a temperature and relatives returning or coming from infected areas must be avoided. The films specifically highlight that in the event of symptoms, the general practitioner must be contacted by telephone, not in person, Mr Dömötör underlined.

He further mentioned that in this situation not only physicians, the government and the authorities have jobs to do; family members, too, can do a great deal to help the elderly.

They can help by going to the chemist to buy the medicines their elderly relatives regularly take, or by doing their shopping. In the present situation, attention of this kind can be very precious, Mr Dömötör said.

“This is a time for standing together. We are asking various organisations for the elderly, local governments, representatives of the media and every Hungarian citizen to help to ensure – in their own ways – that the necessary information should reach every elderly person. They can do so by sharing information on the Internet, or printing and posting materials. We recommend that you call your relatives; it could be crucial in this situation,” the State Secretary said in conclusion.
