“Greece is in increasing trouble, and over 30 thousand asylum seekers are now waiting for the opportunity to travel on towards Western Europe on Lesbos and the neighbouring Greek islands”, Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister György Bakondi said on Hungarian M1 television’s Wednesday morning current affairs program.

“There is a new government in Greece, which has introduced a migration policy that is new in several respects, and which includes the fact that it wants to take a relatively large proportion of migrants back to Turkey by the end of 2020”, he stated.

“Certain Western European leaders have made some particularly strange statements with relation to migration recently”, the Chief Security Advisor emphasised.

“At the hearing of the Swedish candidate for the post of EU Commissioner, it became apparent that he supports the admittance of economic migrants in the interests of supplementing Europe’s decreasing population”, Mr. Bakondi said.

“In the meantime, the French President and the Finnish Prime Minister have both suggested that if a country does not participate in the distribution of migrants rescued at sea, then its membership of the Schengen Area should be suspended”, he added.

“This is a particularly strange statement in view of the fact that in theory the European Union is an alliance of nations of equal rank”, he pointed out.

Speaking on Kossuth Radio’s “Good Morning, Hungary!” show, Mr. Bakondi said the measures being introduced by the new Greek government have had no significant effect so far, and accordingly migrants living in open Greek camps are free to set off towards the West.
