The Minister of State of the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister believes it is beneath an organisation which is “theoretically committed” to civic rights to encourage people to cast invalid votes at the referendum to be held on 2 October.
Csaba Dömötör told this to the Hungarian News Agency MTI in response to the fact that in a communication issued on Thursday, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee encourages electors to attend the 2 October referendum and to cast invalid votes.
The Minister of State highlighted: the referendum of 2 October serves as a guarantee to ensure that the Hungarian people may continue to decide for themselves on issues which fundamentally affect their lives. He added: the position of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee is all the more incomprehensible as the referendum is one of the most important institutions of democracy. Consequently, as he said, instead of this behaviour which is clearly beneath a human rights organisation, they expect the Hungarian Helsinki Committee to sincerely state whether “they support Brussels’ relocation plans or not”.
Mr Dömötör takes the view that not even the Helsinki Committee can deny that the security situation has significantly deteriorated in Europe since the beginning of the immigration crisis. “We have here the future of Hungary at stake, and we must not take any chances”, the Minister of State said, stressing: this is why we must say no to forced resettlement on 2 October.
Parliament ordered the referendum initiated by the Government with respect to the mandatory resettlement quotas on 10 May, and President of the Republic János Áder scheduled the referendum for 2 October. The question is as follows: “Do you want the European Union to be entitled to prescribe the mandatory settlement of non-Hungarian citizens in Hungary without the consent of Parliament?”
