Measures had to be adopted to protect our borders, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister said on the Friday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.

According to György Bakondi, since the beginning of the year, 1,250 prohibited border-crossing attempts have been made; such a high number had never before been registered in the month of January.

A very large number of migrants are staying on the Greek islands and mainland, in the region of the Croatian and Bosnian borders and also in the vicinity of the Hungarian border.

If necessary, they are able to direct further forces to the Hungarian border.

He also highlighted that they have increased the number of Hungarian police officers helping with the guarding of the borders in North Macedonia.
