With regard to the epidemic situation, this year’s government programmes commemorating the 1956 revolution and freedom fight will be confined to the ceremonial raising of the national flag – as part of which the national flag will be hoisted with military honours at 9.00 a.m. on 23 October at Kossuth tér – and the presentation of the Hungarian Legion of Honour awards.
On 22 October, there will be a spectacular light show projected onto the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Between 22 October and 4 November, photos from the time of the revolution and freedom fight entitled “Memories 1956 – Urban Exhibition” will be on display at iconic locations around the capital.
We are asking state agencies and local governments to regard this as a guideline upon the organisation of commemorations for 23 October, and to avoid events attracting large audiences.
