With a view to boosting domestic tourism, the government is planning to organise a series of St. Stephen Day commemorations and events lasting for several days. Among others, the series of events will include a gastro festival, outdoor concerts, a St. Stephen Day procession, waterside concerts and family programmes in Budapest. The goal is to celebrate Hungary’s birthday, whilst giving those working in the tourism sector a boost as the coronavirus epidemic affected tourism workers most.

The amount intended for the refurbishment of the Chain Bridge – which the government pledged during the term of previous Mayor of Budapest István Tarlós – is available. However, to this day the Metropolitan Municipality led by Gergely Karácsony has not even made an attempt to draw on this sum; in actual fact, tenders have not even been invited yet for the refurbishment of the bridge. The fact that the Metropolitan Municipality led by Mr Karácsony has delayed the refurbishment of the bridge for 8 months is dangerous and is drastically increasing the cost of the project.
