At its meeting held today, the government reviewed the epidemic situation and the measures related thereto. The second wave of the epidemic has also reached Hungary. We measure the success of the fight against the virus in human lives, and we therefore believe it is particularly important for everyone to comply with the travel restrictions in effect and the general protective measures. We must now all at once take care of the safety of the elderly who are most at risk, must keep our children going to school safe, and must guarantee the smooth operation of the economy.

The Government of Hungary summarised the experiences so far of the travel restrictions introduced on 1 September, and decided that in the interest of the smooth operation of the economy, we will continue to permit entry for business travellers. The detailed rules relating to tests performed abroad have also been adopted: in the event of entry into Hungary, PCR tests carried out in Schengen Member States will be recognised as equivalent to tests performed in Hungary.

At the meeting, the government decided to extend the stringent conditions relating to travel into and out of Hungary for the attendance of sporting events hosted in Hungary to cultural events. As regards spectators, spectators of sporting events and cultural events held in Hungary are only allowed to enter the territory of the country if they have a negative PCR test result and a ticket for the event, and subject themselves to health screening; they will be required to leave the country within 72 hours of entry.

The detailed regulations will be promulgated in Magyar Közlöny [Hungarian Gazette].
