On Monday, Minister of State for Government Communication Bence Tuzson told Hungarian television channel M1 that if more than three million people have the same opinion, it is the moral obligation of the Government to take it seriously.

Mr. Tuzson added that people in most parts of the country have the right view on the problem, regardless of whether or not they were affected by last year’s migrant flow.

According to the Minister of State, the result of Sunday’s referendum is a strong mandate for the Government to be able to go through with unified and strong European policies.

Instead of the relocation quota, the EU should finally realise the protection of borders and provide help outside Europe, he said.

Mr. Tuzson told Kossuth Rádió’s “180 Minutes” programme that as a result of the referendum a legislative process must be launched, and depending on its schedule an outcome can be expected within a few weeks or months.

He added that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will have to be active in every European forum, and the fact that so many people support him enhances the work of the Government.

“There are some among the leadership of the EU who consider themselves democrats, and cannot allow themselves to disregard the opinion of the people”, Mr. Tuzson said.

The mandate provided in the referendum is enough for Hungary to say “no” to mandatory relocation; the armoury is strong enough now, and the Government of Hungary must and will use it, Mr. Tuzson underlined.
