Compared with earlier periods, the threat of infection due to migrants arriving in masses has increased, the Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Minister stated on the Sunday evening programme of the public service television news channel M1.

György Bakondi stressed that there was no reliable data regarding the actual number of new arrivals, only regarding those who come into contact with the authorities; however, migrants are transiting through a number of countries or are setting out from countries where there are high infection rates.

According to the chief security advisor, from the viewpoint of Europe’s internal security the situation would be reassuring if illegal migrants could be stopped at or at a distance from the EU’s external borders, and if only those were allowed into Europe who are genuinely eligible for political asylum and have undergone proper health screening.
