As part of the effort to contain the coronavirus epidemic, Toyota Hungary has offered twenty vehicles to the National Ambulance Service, health care workers and large aid organisations, the head of the government task force coordinating volunteers and donations said on Monday in Budaörs.

At a press conference held at the establishment of Toyota Central Europe Kft., Máriusz Révész said, in response to the appeal of the task force, Toyota has also joined the initiative ‘Let’s help each other’ and has offered twenty passenger cars and minibuses.

Six vehicles will be offered to the hospital newly built in Kiskunhalas, six to the National Ambulance Service, and another eight will be used by charitable organisations to forward the many donations they are receiving to those in need, the politician highlighted.

At the press conference, spokesperson for the ambulance service Pál Győrfi said, thanks to the measures implemented by the government and the law-abiding behaviour of members of the public, it seems we have managed to slow down the spread of the virus.

He added that we are in the phase of group incidences, and must prepare for entering the phase of mass incidences which will be difficult, but perhaps possible to avoid by observing the rules.

It is the duty of the ambulance service to prepare for worst-case scenarios, Mr Győrfi stressed, indicating that the personal and materials conditions necessary for saving lives are at the disposal of the ambulance service.

Toyota Country Manager Richárd László said they have selected cars which their partners have used so far as test vehicles. As at this time test driving is not possible, these vehicles could be of more use in the containment of the epidemic, he added.
