The version of the national consultation with access for persons with disabilities has been completed, and so every Hungarian citizen is now able to complete it, Zsolt Nyitrai, the Prime Minister’s appointee announced.

As a basic tenet of its functioning, before its important decisions, the Government of Hungary consults with the people; this is what the national consultation is about, he stressed. At the same time, it is an equally important priority for the cabinet that social groups whose members may for one reason or another have difficulties with the completion of the questionnaire should also be involved in public life, he explained.

Mr Nyitrai highlighted that the Hungarian Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted with a history of more than a hundred years contacted the government, asking them to make it possible for the more than 80,000 blind and partially sighted persons living in the country to take part in the consultation.

President of the Federation Sándor Nagy said blind and partially sighted persons, too, follow social events, this is why they asked the cabinet’s help with providing access to the completion of the electronic questionnaire on the website.

In a video message, the government has introduced the program which helps the blind and partially sighted with the machine-assisted reading of the contents on the nemzetikonzultacio.kormany.hu website.

The head of the Federation described the project as successful, and asked blind and partially sighted citizens to take part in the national consultation.
