According to the Government Spokesperson, the European Parliament has decided on several items of the “Soros plan”: the majority of the EP adopted the plans on a quota system that has no upper limit, the involvement of non-governmental organisations in the relevant activities which are “associated with György Soros”, and the acceleration of family reunifications.

Zoltán Kovács was interviewed on Thursday on the public service television news channel M1 in light of the fact that the plenary sitting of the European Parliament has approved the mandate to enter into negotiations of the Dublin asylum reform package which was adopted by its Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) in October. In the wake of this decision, negotiations may begin among the different institutions as soon as the Council comprised of the heads of the governments of the Member States forms its position.

The Government Spokesperson said: this vote, too, confirms that the stakes of the current national consultation have never been clearer than they are today. In his view, the proposed changes seek to punish the countries which refuse to take in migrants.

Mr Kovács was also asked about the decision adopted by the European Parliament regarding the state of the rule of law in Poland, and the fact that according to Member of the European Parliament for the socialists Tibor Szanyi, the procedures related to the state of the rule of law in Poland and Hungary are also tied together in that the two governments stated in advance that they would rescue one another from any possible EU sanctions with their mutual vetoes. Mr Szanyi therefore proposed to the Commission and the Member States that “the two procedures should be conducted as one”. The Government Spokesperson stressed: the European Treaties stipulate clearly that combined or merged procedures are “out of the question”. If they do wish to conduct such a procedure, it can only be conducted in relation to a single Member State, he added.
