On Friday, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told public television channel M1 that the planned restructuring of public administration started by the Government as part of its bureaucracy-cutting programme has started half a decade ago.

Mr. Kovács added that in 2010, the Government inherited an outdated system, and therefore there is a lot to do. Disputes on this issue must be analysed from an efficiency perspective, he added.

The Government Spokesperson explained that although fewer administrative offices and fewer bureaucrats may lead to fewer people working in this sector, structural unemployment present in quite a few parts of Hungary indicates that well-skilled professionals will be able to find new employment. Thus, the restructuring of the system serves the interests of the economy and of the people, he noted.
