The government’s economy protection and economy restarting action plan also has a major impact on agriculture, including, among others, those working in the gardening sector, the Government Spokesperson said in a recording posted on Facebook on Wednesday.
Alexandra Szentkirályi said the government knows only too well that the state of danger caused by the coronavirus poses not only a health care problem, but it additionally has severe economic consequences. It is affecting the jobs of thousands or tens of thousands of people, she underlined.
The government spokesperson highlighted that in light of this the government has created a major economy protection and economy restarting action plan covering the sectors which are being most affected by the present situation.
The recording also featured Minister of Agriculture István Nagy who stressed that they are doing everything they can to guarantee stability in the sector, and to ensure that all the work that needs to be done in agriculture now can be done in order to have a harvest after the epidemic passes.
“We are at the forefront of the preservation of jobs, and have suspended the contribution payments of ornamental plant nurseries,” the Minister said, adding that with this measure they sought to ensure that jobs can be preserved and the nurseries concerned can survive.
Mr Nagy observed that, in addition to the production of essential foodstuffs, flowers and plants enhancing the beauty and comfort of daily life are also important.
The Minister of Agriculture asked everyone to pay attention to buying Hungarian flowers because this will enable the sector to survive and to preserve thousands of Hungarian jobs.
At the end of the recording, Ms. Szentkirályi introduced a business growing tulips which has offered elderly care homes more than 300,000 flowers through the government.
