Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács takes the view that the hearing held in the European Parliament (EP) on Monday is aimed against the Hungarian Government’s migration policy.
The Government Spokesperson told the public service television news channel M1 in the context of the Monday meeting of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament (LIBE) that fundamentally pro-immigration organisations “claiming to be non-governmental” and politicians supporting immigration argue against the Hungarian Government.
He stressed that the Government has represented a consistent position regarding illegal migration in the past eighteen months.
The need has emerged for setting up a second line of defence because they wish to reduce the number of migrants to zero, and “we want to make illegal entry into Europe impossible”, he added.
He also stressed that we need more stringent regulations because immigrants have now fully acquainted themselves with the Hungarian and EU migration system and abuse it. Consequently, we must close the loopholes.
The Government Spokesperson said that several elements of the measures proposed by the Prime Minister have also been introduced in other European countries, or their implementation is currently being planned, and so Hungary set an example in this respect. He added: it seems that there are still some in the LIBE Committee who continue to support a pre-immigration policy.
Mr Kovács stated that the Government is expecting a political conflict due to the second line of defence and the new regulations because non-governmental organisations representing contrary political interests will argue against the protection of Europe.
At the Monday meeting of LIBE, one of the topics was the state of the rule of law in Hungary. On behalf of the Hungarian Government, Justice Minister László Trócsányi attended the meeting where the representatives of several civil-society organisations had the opportunity to state their case.
