Jean-Claude Juncker is surely “confusing genres”, fake news with opinion, on account of his “sciatica”, State Secretary for international Communications and Relations Zoltán Kovács said on Twitter in reaction to statements by the President of the European Commission.
At a press conference on Friday at the close of the two-day meeting of EU heads of State and Government in Brussels, Juncker declared: fake news not only comes from external sources, but sometimes also from European Union leaders, such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Juncker stressed that during the debate on disinformation he had made it clear that “some of the prime ministers sitting around there, they are the origin of fake news”.
“When Mr. Orbán, for example, is saying that I’m responsible, guilty for the Brexit: fake news. When he’s saying that migrants are responsible for Brexit: fake news. So let’s not put all the responsibility on others, let’s check in around who is the news faker”, he said.
