The citizens of ever more nations have recognised the threats and problems inherent in illegal migration, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said on Kossuth Radio’s programme 180 Minutes on Friday morning. Mr Kovács believes that this is also underlined by the results of the elections in Austria and Germany, and most recently in Italy.

He said we must be optimistic, but at the same time we must draw attention to the fact that the EU is systematically pushing through the implementation of measures under the Dublin Regulations. As a result, instead of stopping immigration, they are working on mandatory distribution quotas based on which Hungary would be required to take in 10,000 people. The Hungarian government will fight against this on all fronts, including at the EU summit due to be held in two weeks’ time which will be attended by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

The government is opposed to all measures, including the UN’s global migration package, which would institutionalise migration. We must preserve our culture, Mr Kovács pointed out, adding that this issue must be approached from the viewpoint of protecting our own citizens.
