The southern security border closure has proved that it works and fulfils its function, and if these security measures were also implemented in other EU Member States, such as Greece, there would be no incidents where migrants attempt to break through the border at the Greek-Macedonian border section, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács spoke about this on the public service television news channel M1 on Friday morning.

According to Serbian press reports, dozens of migrants qualifying as economic migrants clashed with members of the police force on the Greek-Macedonian border on Thursday in an effort to gain access to Macedonia. The police used rubber truncheons to stop the angry migrants who destroyed the already partially completed fence on the border.

Mr Kovács reiterated that illegal immigration and terrorism „go hand in hand”. It poses an extremely serious security risk that we have no idea who these people are. They come with false documents or without documents, we do not know what they bring with them, and we do not know where they are going and what they want, he explained.

Regarding the operation of the Counter Terrorism Centre conducted at the weekend, he said: he would warn everyone against „making fun of this affair and starting to criticise the very people who may have to perform their duty in a given scenario by risking their lives". The determination and expertise demonstrated by the Hungarian police force and members of the Counter Terrorism Centre in the past few weeks and months cannot be called into question. He stressed: upon the completion of the investigations, we shall find out what these cases are actually about.

The Counter Terrorism Centre informed the Hungarian News Agency MTI in a communiqué on Tuesday that, as part of a series of counter-terrorism operations conducted at the weekend, they apprehended a group of individuals equipped with magazine-fed firearms and explosives.
