On Friday Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told public television channel M1 that the European Commission has not taken into account any of the developments before launching an infringement procedure against Hungary over segregation of Roma children in schools.

Mr. Kovács explained that Hungary more than anywhere has implemented its integration strategy consistently, and the results of this have already started to become visible.

He noted that in Hungary it is forbidden to register children on the basis of their ethnicity, therefore it would be interesting to find out where Brussels has obtained its information on children’s origins.

Speaking about the issue of migration, the Government Spokesperson said that last year some EU Member States consistently disregarded the Dublin Treaty, therefore Hungary must not be punished for having started identifying people arriving in the country. He added that there are more and more people on the “Dublin list”: the number of migrants who are not entitled to refugee status is increasing.
