On Thursday, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told public television channel M1 that the measure of solidarity is not acceptance of the quota system planned by the EU, but participation in protection of the EU’s borders.
The Government Spokesperson said that the primary goal is to present a functioning form of European solidarity. He pointed out that there is a lot of talk about solidarity, and Hungary is being called to account in this regard, while the measure of solidarity being used is the acceptance of the mandatory quotas.
Hungary’s position is that the quota system is unlawful and will not work. Furthermore, receiving migrants brings with it substantial risks, which is why the quota system must be rejected, Mr. Kovács said.
