“The most successful National Consultation ever came to an end last week, breaking all previous participation records”, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday citing final postal statistics.

2,332,755 questionnaires were returned before the extended deadline, 2,154,264 of which arrived in printed form, while a further 178,490 people filled out the National Consultation questionnaire on the Soros Plan via the internet, the Government Spokesperson explained.

Mr. Kovács once again thanked everyone who had taken part in the Consultation, stressing that the participation figures also indicate that the Consultation was about a national issue that will determine the future of both Hungary and the European Union.

“It concerned issues that were not only related to the Soros Plan, but also to immigration and illegal migration in general”, Mr. Kovács added, informing reporters that the processing of the content of the questionnaires will also be completed within a few days.

The Government Spokesperson highlighted the fact that the week’s events, such as the hearing by the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), which will be attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, make the intensity with which those in Brussels are trying to “steamroll and force” governments and political powers that are against immigration to change their minds “as clear as day”.

“Naturally, we are not partners in this”, Mr. Kovács declared, underlining the fact that the LIBE hearing is in itself proof of the fact that there is a “peculiar witch-hunt going on with relation to the upcoming Soros report”.

“With relation to the Soros organisations and the implementation of the Soros Plan, it is absolutely obvious that this hearing will be about”, the Government Spokesperson said.

Mr. Kovács also stressed that George Soros “has himself become involved in the campaign” with his intent to establish a network in provincial Hungary.

According to the Government Spokesperson the goal of this step by the billionaire is also to change the Hungarian Government’s immigration policy, and to achieve the downfall of the Cabinet.

“It is obvious that these provincial organisations will also be working to organise immigration, and not to stop it”, Mr. Kovács declared.

With relation to this the Government Spokesperson also pointed out that George Soros acted in a similar manner during the 2015 Canadian parliamentary elections, as a result of which local legislation had to issue a decree banning various liberal NGOs from interfering in the vote after an American-based foundation linked to George Soros spent over one and a half million U.S. dollars on influencing the Canadian elections before “proudly announcing” that they had helped conservative candidates lose in 25 out of 29 electoral districts.

In reply to a question, the Government representative said it was a mystery why George Soros had thought of establishing a provincial network just months before the elections, but that the move indicates that George Soros “will do everything possible to be an active participant of this political campaign”.

“I would like to remind everyone that elections are contested by political parties, and in accordance with the fundamental rules of democracy it is those who are elected by the people who win a mandate to influence decisions”, he said, adding that any and all attempts to influence the elections while circumventing this fact contravene the fundamental rules of democracy.

In reply to another question, Mr. Kovács said the Helsinki Committee “is also part of the Soros network” that is “actively and very efficiently working to undermine the Hungarian Government”, and is also expected to “raise arguments and make claims against Hungary” at Thursday’s LIBE hearing.
