On Thursday, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told public television M1 in connection with the infringement procedure launched against Hungary because of its migration regulation that the European Commission has raised objections related to the implementation of the regulation, not its preparation and content.

The Government Spokesperson said that there has been a dialogue with the European Commission for months, throughout which it has raised dozens of objections, out of which “maybe three are left”. “We are convinced that we are right”, he added.

Mr. Kovács emphasised that it is unimaginable for Hungary to accept or to be forced to implement regulations which allow illegal migrants or economic immigrants to come to Hungary.

The Government’s measures have proved to be realistic and effective. It is obvious that more and more European countries are thinking about introducing similarly strict measures, Mr. Kovács said, adding that “there is no other tool in our hands with which we could even start dealing with the phenomenon we are facing”.
