According to Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács, we should be agreeing on things with regard to which there is a consensus among member states, according to the original spirit of the European Union.
Speaking on Kossuth Radio’s “180 Minutes” program on Friday, the Government Spokesperson said: “The dispute concerning the quotas is irresolvable, and by linking the issue of illegal immigration to the payment of cohesion funding they are generating a bogus debate and misleading public opinion”. “The threats with regard to reducing cohesion funding indicate that there is a fundamental misunderstanding about why exactly the EU came into existence”, he added.
“Instead of trying to force states to accept the quota using threats, blackmail and the application of double standards, we should be concentrating on issues with regard to which there is a consensus, such as the protection of external borders”, Mr. Kovács explained.
