On Tuesday, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács told Hungarian public television channel M1 that the mandatory relocation quota is a false measure of unity and solidarity, and it fails to solve problems.

Mr. Kovács underlined that although Hungary, too, agrees that every Member State of the European Union must fulfil their obligations relating to illegal migration, this line of action should have been followed from the beginning of the migration. If it had been followed, the concept of the quota would never have been considered.

Regarding the meeting of the European Council due to be held later this week, Mr. Kovács said that a huge task of having the mandatory relocation quotas removed from the agenda is awaiting Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. “We must come to an understanding at the highest level”, he pointed out.
