Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács called the so-called Sargentini Report presented by the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) on Thursday the report of the Soros empire.

At a press conference in Budapest on Friday, Mr. Kovács reminded reporters that the day before the LIBE Committee had presented the draft of its report on Hungary, which includes serious criticisms, the rapporteur of which is Green Party MEP Judith Sargentini.

According to the Government Spokesperson they are once again attempting what they did not succeed in achieving at the parliamentary elections, namely to break the Hungarian Government’s position according to which it firmly rejects the mandatory resettlement mechanism and becoming an immigrant country.

The writers of the Sargentini Report are tied to the ‘Soros empire’ by a thousand strands, and during the past eight years have attempted to tarnish Hungary’s reputation on numerous occasions”, Mr. Kovács said, adding: “Judith Sargentini hasn’t even denied that this is not a legal procedure but a political one”.

According to the Government Spokesperson, a political witch-hunt in underway. He objected to the fact that the Government wasn’t even invited to the session of the Committee, and that when Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó requested the opportunity to participate and represent the Hungarian Government, the request was rejected.

“The Government is attempting to prevent the success of the report using all possible means, and its mandate to do so has been further reinforced in light of the result of the recent general election”, he stated.

With relation to a question concerning the fact that Hungarian political weekly Figyelő has published a list of people who according to the magazine work for George Soros or the organisations he funds, Mr. Kovács said: “The Government has nothing to do with how the press deals with political issues”.

In reply to a question according to which there are 2000 “Soros mercenaries” working worldwide, not just in Hungary, the Government Spokesperson said: “The situation is clear, there is no misunderstanding. Prime Minister Orbán wasn’t the one who spoke about these people but a former chief financial officer of one of the Soros organisations, who made it absolutely clear what numbers she was talking about. “According to the Government, on one recording she very clearly states that there are at least 2000 people working for George Soros in Hungary alone”, he added.
