According to Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács, there is political pressure behind the infringement procedure instituted against Hungary due to the “Stop Soros” legislative package.

On Tuesday on the public service television news channel M1 Mr Kovács was asked regarding the fact that earlier during the day Gergely Gulyás, the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office, referred to the infringement procedure instituted against Hungary due to the “Stop Soros” legislative package as unacceptable and an attack on the part of the European Commission.

The government spokesperson took the view that those who take active measures to stop illegal migration are punished, while those who invite migrants to Europe are practically rewarded. He indicated that there has been an ongoing debate on these issues for three years now, and what the heads of state and government agreed upon in the European Council appears to be “unable to shake” the European Commission’s point of view.

He stressed that the infringement procedure instituted due to the “Stop Soros” legislative package as well as the fact that the Commission referred to the litigation phase a procedure of the same kind – which was instituted due to the border guarding regime and the assessment of asylum applications – must be viewed in this light.
