On Monday, Government Spokesperson Alexandra Szentkirályi drew attention to the importance of observing the general rules of hygiene and the regulations in effect. She stressed that we need unity in order to curb the second wave of the epidemic.

In a video message posted on her Facebook account, Ms. Szentkirályi said the coronavirus epidemic continues to remain with us, and therefore we must take even better care of one another so that conventional education can start without problems.

She added that with the tightened regulations to be introduced from 1 September, the government’s goal is to protect people’s health and jobs whilst not stopping life altogether and enabling schools to reopen in the normal mode.

She pointed out that this is in the best interests of parents and employers, not only those of children and teachers. The intensification of the epidemic would jeopardise the economy, including jobs, the Government Spokesperson said.

She highlighted that parents, too, will have to ensure that they observe the rules in force in order to keep the epidemic away from institutions.

She stressed that sick children should not be taken to school, while everyone should pay attention to the regular washing of hands, social distancing and the observance of general rules of hygiene. These guarantee the safety of the community and the smooth implementation of the school year, she said.

Also during the epidemic, the government is doing everything it can to make the start of the school year as easy for families as possible, she stressed. She mentioned free textbooks, subsidised meals for an ever wider group of children, and the early payment of family allowances.

She said already in the spring we saw for ourselves what we could achieve if we stood together. This is what we need now, too, in order to curb the second wave of the epidemic, she added.
