“The Government will not assist in the adoption of a text that is at odds with the country’s interests, but we will fight until possible for these criteria to be enforced”, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács said with relation to the UN’s migrating package on Hungarian M1 television’s Thursday evening current affairs program.

“The UN’s text is based on a totally different viewpoint, it will not be easy to change it, but we will try”, Mr. Kovács said, adding that Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó will be “going into battle” in the UN with textual proposals.

The Western half of the world, which could “bear the brunt” of everything that the current text is proposing in view of the fact that it involves opening migration routes, making admittance practically mandatory and benefits that would be afforded as a human right, will feel it “opening like Pandora’s box” if the text is adopted in its current form, he indicated.

With relation to the Stop Soros legislative package, Mr. Kovács pointed out that the number of people arriving at the coast of Italy fell as soon as stricter rules were introduced with relation to the operations of NGOs there. “We must prevent organisations that assist and organise immigration from operating freely or in the guise of something else, while the will of the Government and the people is completely different”, he stressed.

The Government Spokesperson was also asked with relation to the fact that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will be visiting Bulgaria on Monday. Mr. Kovács said Hungary was turning to Bulgaria because as a country that is also affected by migration and which works in cooperation with Hungary, it understands about protecting borders and stopping illegal migration. In addition, the parties may be putting forward a textual proposal with relation to the Dublin system in opposition of and in the interests of correcting the proposal that has been in development in recent months, he added.
