According to Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács, the latest report by human rights organisation Freedom House, which has ties to George Soros, is politically motivated and biased.

With relation to the organisation’s report on the state of political rights and civil liberties, Mr. Kovács told Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday that knowing the organisation’s financial background, it is absolutely obvious that this an attack against Hungary by yet another Soros organisation.

“Freedom House’s methodology and procedure is politically motivated”, the Government Spokesperson said.
“The evaluation is also political, and is linked to George Soros and to those liberals who are in a political and ideological dispute with Hungary”, he added.

Mr. Kovács said it was problematic that the clear violations of the law that occurred on 23 October 2006, when the rule of law was trampled over, were not raised in the organisations reports.

He stressed that the fundamental problem with Freedom House is that it is a Soros organisation, which is biased and which is attacking the country out of political interest and motivation.

Freedom House published its Freedom in the World report a few days ago. According to the analysis found on the organisation’s website, Hungary is listed as a free country and received 72 points out of a possible 100, the lowest number of point’s awarded to an EU member state. The human rights organisation also expressed its concerns with regard to the fact that, in its opinion, citizens in Hungary are increasingly fearful of expressing their political opinions as a result of the fact that non-governmental organisations and the opposition are being increasingly intimidated.
