“The government has spent a total of 245 billion forints (EUR 690 million) to date on defending against the coronavirus epidemic”, Minister of Finance Mihály Varga said in a video uploaded to his Facebook page on Friday.

Mr. Varga said some 90 billion forints (EUR 253.5 million) had remained within the Hungarian economy thanks to economy protection measures, and 157 billion forints (EUR 442.1 million) were made available for the procurement of epidemiological equipment. “The financial action group is working to adapt the budget to the situation that has been caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and to ensure that the required funding is always available. The government is introducing new measures every week to protect the results achieved so far through active economic policy, and accordingly further economy protection measures are to be expected soon”, the Minister of Finance announced.
