Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga appointed Ágnes Hornung, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, as head of the OECD National Commission in Hungary.
The OECD National Commission is a professional forum for representing, negotiating and coordinating stances of governments at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which body is composed by ministries and national public administration institutions involved in OECD issues as well as high-level delegates from the National Bank of Hungary.
In the coming years, the OECD National Commission will play a key role in the coordination of the Government’s financial policy, as in May 2016 Hungary celebrates the 20th anniversary of OECD membership and the country delegates a deputy chairperson to the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting. Hungary joined the organization on 7 May 1996.
The OECD, which includes 34 highly developed member states, is a leading international economic policy organization of world class expertise and broad knowledge of best national practices, which provides the decision makers of member states with advice and guidance. The OECD also assists governments in formulating responses to new economic policy challenges, by taking into consideration the special characteristics of individual countries.
Hungary will continue to rely on the knowledge base and comparative analyses of the OECD for the shaping of the country’s economic policy; therefore it is of primary importance for Government delegates to present a common stance at the various professional forums of the OECD. This is the main task of the OECD National Commission, set up in 2011 and supervised by the Ministry for National Economy.
