The Hungarian industrial sector, which is in a phase of renewal and robust growth, is and will be in the need of more skilled labour, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said at the school year opening of Óbuda University. The Minister also announced that the institution was to receive a grant of HUF 1.8bn (EUR 60 million) to fund a dormitory refurbishment project.
Higher education institutions are the trustees of scientific and cultural values as well as the creators of the future. They can, however, fulfil their duty only if they are capable of making progress constantly, Mihály Varga stated. The Government aims to advance in this regard and increase the importance of performance within the Hungarian tertiary education system.
Forging closer relations between science institutions, higher education and the industrial sector concurrently serve the interest of enterprises, education and the economy. Joint efforts benefit universities and industrial enterprises alike, no matter if partnerships aim to utilize the achievements of innovation or to reach new scientific results. These factors are also important for university students who gain modern knowledge through cooperation and up-to-date, practical skills required nowadays for landing a job, the Minister noted.
Óbuda University has all the traditions and achievements that are making the quality of Hungary’s higher education outstanding even from an international perspective, he said.
