The first session of the Economic Cabinet held earlier today focused on the Budget of 2019 and economic policy issues of the next years, Finance Minister and Head of the Cabinet Mihály Varga said.
The topic on top of the first meeting’s agenda was the drafting of the state budget for 2019, which is taking place this spring, in line with the schedule used in recent years. This timing bolsters predictability and calculability as everybody can see the fiscal manouvering room half a year ahead of the new calendar year, he noted. The document is to be completed in coming weeks after which it – in keeping with regulatory guarantees – is to be discussed at government forums and submitted, together with the opinion of the Fiscal Council, to the National Assembly presumably in the first half of June, the Minister noted.
The members of the Economic Cabinet are as follows: Finance Minister and Deputy PM responsible for economic policy Mihály Varga; Minister without Portfolio responsible for the Management of State Assets Andrea Bártfai-Mager; Minister for Innovation and Technology László Palkovics; the Minister heading the Prime Minister’s Office Gergely Gulyás.
