One learns all his life how to prudently manage his finances, and the state is responsible for improving the financial awareness of people, Minister of Finance Mihály Varga said at the inauguration of the Fintelligence Financial Education Centre of the University of Debrecen. That is why the Government has launched, the Minister added, the National Financial Awareness Development Strategy.

The Strategy covers seven years, from 2017 to 2023, and implementation is divided into two-year phases. The aim of the Government is bring the programme to each age group but during the implementation special attention will be paid to providing practical financial knowledge for young people. That is why financial education is to become part of the national curriculum, he noted. “Those who are confident in terms of finances will more easily become entrepreneurs later on”, he stated.

Families must also be assisted in prudent financial planning but older generations should also be taught. One objective of the Strategy is to get through to the group seen as the most responsive to modern financial information, university and college students. The Fintelligence Financial Education Centre is a great place to achieve this goal, he pointed out.
