In the initial four months of the year, foreign trade posted a surplus of EUR 3bn, and thus positive trade processes have continued, Deputy State Secretary for Prioritized Enterprise Relations Zoltán István Marczinkó told public news channel M1, commenting on the latest trade data released by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office.
Preliminary data show that the sector accumulated surpluses of EUR 534 million and EUR 3.02bn in the month of April and in January-April 2015, respectively. The latter figure is EUR 552 million higher than it was in the corresponding period of the previous year.
As the Deputy State Secretary pointed out, the launching of a three-shift work schedule at the Hungarian production facilities of Audi and Mercedes has also helped the favourable trend to remain in place.
He stressed that Hungary’s trade data with Germany are excellent.
Besides the manufacturing sector, he added, the agricultural sector was another major factor behind the positive foreign trade data. In the observed period, the volume of exports to Russia fell, mainly as a result of slumping medicine sales.
The first results of the “Opening to the East” policy are also becoming visible: the number of agreements and memorandums signed by the President of Egypt last week proves this achievement.
