Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga is to inaugurate the Honorary Consulate of Hungary in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, on 7 November. The Hungarian Government considers the Central-Asian country to be a strategic partner and improving Hungarian-Kazakh relations has been a priority of the Government’s Opening to the East policy.
Honorary Consul Urazgalij Karshegenov is commissioned to strengthen economic relations between the two countries, explore new partnership opportunities with the counties of Western Kazakhstan and facilitate through his efforts the entry of Hungarian enterprises to the Kazakh market. The institutional framework for this objective is realized as the Consulate opens this evening.
Over the past years, Kazakhstan has been Hungary’s third largest foreign trade partner among the Commonwealth of Independent States with turnover of more than USD 261 million last year. In the region, the current number of Hungarian employees is more than 800.
The Government also intends to revive economic relations through establishing, hopefully in the next two years and still in the current parliamentary term, direct flights between the two countries.
Hungary’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Imre Laszlóczki was also present at the ceremony.
