Hungary is aiming to become a leader and determinant of Europe’s digitalization campaign through active participation in EU-funded projects fostering the development of intelligent automotive manufacturing, e-mobility and e-banking solutions, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said after he met with EU Commissioner for Digital Single Market Andrus Ansip.
Hungary was one of the first countries which have joined EU schemes aiming to promote an innovation-led economy through our industrial development and digitalization programmes, the Minister noted.
At the talks held in Hungary’s Ministry for National Economy, Mihály Varga said, presenting measures designed to support digitalization and industrial development, that the Government had made and was currently implementing a re-industrialization blueprint, in which the development of self-driving vehicles and e-mobility, among others, had been prioritized. Last May, the National Technology Platform was launched in order to promote and provide information of solutions related to Industry 4.0. Under another scheme, the Digital Success Programme, the Government has been easing access to the Internet for households and enterprises; VAT on Internet services was reduced from 27 percent to 18 percent this year, and the rate is set to be cut further to 5 percent in 2018, he stressed.
