Economic momentum driving recent growth can only be maintained if domestic enterprisers are capable of continuous and permanent renewal, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said at the presentation ceremony of the Awards for Successful Enterprises.

As he pointed out, awardees honoured today have been role models through their work and achievements, showing how an enterprise can and must achieve economic success in Hungary.

Speaking of the award he established in August 2013, Mihály Varga added that one of the key reasons for having creating this award was to draw attention to economic performance, present achievements and boost the prestige of economic success and innovation.

In his analysis of the Government’s economic policy goals, the Minister stressed that deteriorating global outlook may also affect Hungary. However, the Minister added that in case of Hungary recent strenuous efforts of the Government to turn around the economy are bearing fruits. “Thanks to these measures, nowadays it is a realistic goal to turn Central Europe -- and within that Hungary – into the economic growth engine of Europe.” Hitherto implemented and planned measures of the Government are aimed at maintaining the growth dynamics of recent years. Among these he mentioned a new industrial strategy, the family housing programme, the acceleration of the disbursement of EU funding, the reform of dual vocational education and the boosting of lending through the reduction of the bank tax rate.

Over the past almost three years, the Minister has honoured more than 800 enterprises active in Hungary with the Awards for Successful Enterprises. Since August 2013, Mihály Varga has presented awards in three categories upon the recommendation of a jury of independent experts.

At the ceremony, the “Investor of the Month” award went to Budapest Healing Baths and Hot Springs Co. Ltd, for investment projects implemented and financed from own funding, which have added to the allure of Budapest as a tourism destination for several years. Prolan Process Control Co. was awarded the “SME of the Month” title. The company’s process control systems developed for public utility and railway networks are nowadays part of university curricula. Stringbike Ltd, which has revolutionized two-wheelers through a Hungarian patent on driving gear, received the “Startup of the Month” award.
