293 SMEs have received grants of more than HUF 4bn under the “Scheme for SMEs’ job creating projects”, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said.

The Government has helped create more than 2000 new jobs and preserve 3600 of existing ones, and thus it has substantially contributed to the growth of competitiveness in the sector, he noted.  The Government has hitherto supported the creation of jobs in the SME sector with grants of more than HUF 50bn (EUR 161 million) in the past eight years, a major factor behind job growth of 750 thousand in this period. The main aim of this scheme was to further increase the number of people in employment and secure long-term jobs. The scheme is also expected to continue to help the convergence of backward regions and concurrently narrow regional gaps on the labour market, he added. Under the regional project support and the de minimis grants scheme expenditures related to the purchase of new equipment, machinery, property, rent and leasing are eligible for compensation.

The amount of grant for each unregistered jobseeker in a new job is HUF 1.5 million, plus HUF 500 000 for a jobseeker taken directly over from a company or HUF 800 000 for a jobseeker employed in the preceding 12 months as public work employee, and another HUF 400 000 as extra grant for each new job created in a designated region or settlement, the Minister said.
