According to the Government’s proposal and the tax package submitted to parliament earlier today, organizations which assist immigration are to pay a special tax.

The Government is working to defend Hungary from illegal migration using all the instruments at its disposal. To this end, the Government believes it is necessary to introduce additional measures on top of the existing border fence, stronger border protection and legal barriers. In addition to the amendment of the Basic Law which bans the resettlement of migrants into Hungary and the Stop Soros package which penalizes the organization of illegal migration, the Government also aims to fight illegal migration through tax policy instruments.

Defending the country against illegal migration places a sizable financial burden on the state budget, and indirectly on Hungarian people. Accordingly, the Government proposes a special immigration tax of 25 percent, which is to be collected by the tax authority.
