A suitable trade offers at least as many good career opportunities as a higher education degree, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said upon congratulating the Hungarian awardees of the WorldSkills competition held this year in São Paolo, Brazil.
Young professionals who proved to be successful in Brazil are role models for every young person learning a trade, he pointed out. The Ministry for National Economy, he added, was among the sponsors of the event.
At WorldSkills, more than 1200 competitors clashed in 50 events. Hungary was represented by 14 young professionals in 13 categories. Thanks to cabinetmaker Attila László, Hungary has received the first ever gold medal in this category, while network administrator Dávid Csongrádi became the first-ever silver medalist. Hungarian competitors also received medals of excellence in three fields: carpentry, mechatronics and floristry.
Speaking of the country’s economic achievements, the Minister pointed out that Hungarian reforms are working, as the number of people in employment reached a 25-year peak. According to the latest data published by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, more than 4 million 265 thousand people have a job in Hungary. This means that in comparison to the change of government in 2010, the number of jobs in Hungary increased by 555 thousand, he stated. The reform of the vocational training system was designed to offer more practise-oriented education that is also more in line with the demand of the economy.
