Domestic retail sales growth beats EU average

The volume of retail sales grew by 6.6 percent and 4.4 percent, respectively, in February 2016 and in the initial two months of the year. Thus, an upward sales trend has been in place for the 32nd month in a row. The growth figure of February is the fifth largest within the European Union.

Wages in real terms up by some 7 percent year-on-year

Real wages rose significantly, by 6.9 percent in January-February 2016, according to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH). Minister of State for Labour Market and Vocation Education Péter Cseresnyés said that these data showed an upward wage trend has been in place for more than 3 years in Hungary.

Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga called next year’s budget the budget of tax cuts and housing programmes. He revealed that after the reduction of VAT on pork, VAT on milk, eggs and poultry is also set to be cut next year to 5 percent, but the VAT of Internet and restaurant services is also planned to be reduced. The budget is drafted with zero operational deficit for the central sub sector of the state budget.
