Representatives of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, the Ministry of Human Resources and the Ministry for National Economy signed a partnership agreement designed to help achieve strategic goals of the Irinyi Plan.
The deficit of the central sub sector of the state budget closed the year 2015 much better than expected, with 1.9 percent of GDP, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said, commenting on the latest fiscal data released by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) earlier today. Another key indicator, the general government debt-to-GDP ratio also fell, to 75.3 percent.
The Government wants Hungary’s tourism sector growth to remain balanced, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga told at the event entitled “Hungary, á la carte”, organized by Hungarian Tourism Ltd.
It has been one of the Government’s priorities to support enterprises that are genuine driving forces in the national economy; Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said, upon announcing a capacity expansion project by Ajkai Elektronikai Ltd and AE-Plasztik Ltd.
Calendar-adjusted data show that in January 2016 the volume of retail sales grew by 2.2 percent year-on-year, compared to an already high base last year. This positive trend is expected to continue in coming months, as a result of steadily high consumer confidence, the reduction of the personal income tax, higher wages in real terms and the record-breaking employment level.
The Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism (MONEYVAL), a permanent monitoring body of the Council of Europe, has conducted field research on 7-18 March 2016 in Budapest within the framework of the country evaluation process, which began in February 2015.
The budget bill is being drafted at the Ministry for National Economy; it is expected to be finalized and submitted to the Government at the end of April and scheduled to be presented to the National Assembly already in May, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga told public news channel Kossuth Rádió.
In line with prior expectations, the international rating agency has left Hungary’s credit rating unchanged. Standard&Poor’s has maintained the country’s stable outlook and stressed in a press release that the Hungarian economy continued to perform well, external vulnerabilities have diminished and the budget has been balanced.
Following last year, when several tourism indicators hit new highs, this year also promises to be a record-breaking one. Dynamic growth in the number of tourism nights by domestic guests continued in the first month of 2016. Arrivals by foreign guests have also picked up sharply after a slight drop at the end of the previous year: the number of international arrivals grew in eight out of the altogether nine Hungarian regions.
According to the flash report of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) published earlier this morning, in the first month of the year wages in real terms were up by 6.4 percent year-on-year. Thus, wages have been on the rise for more than 3 years and this is the best January growth figure in eleven years.
