The spring seasonal food chain inspection starts today. The national survey ordered by Minister of State for Food Chain Supervision Róber Zsigó will last until the end of the Easter holidays, i.e. 22 April. As usual, the inspection series will focus on the seasonally most popular products and their manufacturers and distributors. In the category of plant products, experts will inspect in particular primeur vegetables and fruits, especially perishable ones such as strawberry.

The spring food chain inspection series will last from 25 March to 22 April nationally. It is coordinated by the National Food Chain Office (NÉBIH) and the government offices.

“Seasonal inspections have a tradition of more than a decade in Hungary. Their common denominator is transparency: the product ranges and target areas are published in advance, since the primary objective is that any defects should be remedied by those concerned already before the inspections. Instead of aiming at imposing the highest possible amounts of penalties, the professional staffs concerned want to ensure that buyers put into their baskets safe products from regular sales places despite the increased turnover. Our experience is that the effects of seasonal inspections are increasingly perceptible. Producers/manufacturers and distributors expect the inspections and proceed more cautiously”, Minister of State Róbert Zsigó said, speaking of the inspections.

The inspection series covers inter alia ham, eggs, wines, various sweets and seasonal vegetables and fruits among the traditionally popular products. The inspections staff of the authority will be present at the places that produce and distribute them and also at markets and fairs.
