“Hungary views Mongolia as a land of opportunity”, Deputy Minister of Agriculture István Nagy stressed during a meeting with Mongolian Minister of Agriculture Purev Sergelen in Budapest.

During the meeting, Mr. Nagy expressed his satisfaction with regard to the fact that the text of a cooperation agreement between Hungary’s and Mongolia’s gene preservation institutes is in preparation in accordance with the undertakings made during the Prime Minister’s official visit earlier this year.

The Deputy Minster stressed that Hungary is committed to the reconstruction of the Songino vaccine production plant, which is being realised with a 25 million dollar Hungarian tied aid loan. The reconstruction of the factory will be the first phase in the development of Mongolia’s food chain safety system, towards which the Ministry of Agriculture is providing all possible professional assistance.

“We continue to have an interest in the export of technologies and products relating to the establishment of model agricultural farms”, Mr. Nagy said, indicating that Hungary also has significant experience within the field of milk industry research.

The Deputy Minister told reporters that in Hungary the Agricultural Marketing Centre is promoting healthy nutrition.

He also pointed out that Hungary is providing scholarships for students from developing countries, including Mongolia, to study at Hungarian agricultural universities, meaning it is paying for university fees, textbooks and college accommodation as well as providing healthcare and a monthly grant.

Mongolia’s economy is continuously expanding, but the country’s agricultural foreign trade balance clearly shows that there is an increasing demand for products that are worthy of finding a market within the Central Asian republic.
