“Hungary is committed to continuing the cooperation concluded with Laos on agricultural matters”, Minster of State for Agriculture Zsolt Feldman declared when he received a delegation from the southeast Asian country at the Ministry of Agriculture. Mr. Feldman highlighted that Hungary has launched the third tied aid programme in Laos.
President of Laos’s National Assembly Pany Yathotou, who headed the delegation, stressed that it is worthwhile pursuing cooperation between Laos and Hungary within the field of agriculture, as the experience of previous programmes has shown cooperation has led to substantial changes in local agriculture and the food industry.
Mr. Feldman added that these relations are exemplary for Hungary, for instance in view of the fact that the third USD 160 million tied aid programme launched in Laos reflects upon practical issues that are critical to Laos’s food supply. Such programmes include food safety, ruminant veterinary health and feed programmes, and there were further opportunities available for developing cooperation within the forestry and fisheries sectors.
Zsolt Feldman recalled that to date 300 students from Laos have had a chance to study in Hungary within the framework of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme, and the opportunity for the financing of the studies of another 50 university students will be available this year.
